Monthly Meeting Features
Illustrated Lectures: Usually these are presented by experts invited from around the country and world. The talks and presentation are generally broad enough for everyone to enjoy with a sprinkling of in depth detail for the more experienced growers. Many times the speaker is a specialist and grower who will bring plants for sale. We welcome suggestions for speakers and topics.
Recent presentations have included:
Beginner Talk: a 10-20 minute discussion following the announcements dealing with the basics.
Show Table: Members lovingly show off and brag a little about their trials and successes. Usually the grower gives tips on how they managed such magnificent growth. Some guest speakers will chime in with additional info. Blooming orchids, both species and complex hybrids are on display for all to enjoy. This is definitely a high point of the meeting as we learn from each other.
Sales Table: Members may bring plants to sell at the meetings when the speaker does not. This is announced in the newsletter prior to the meeting. You’ll find seedlings and divisions as well as mature plants and growing supplies for sale. On occasion, NENYOS also has a few for sale.
Refreshments: Attendees are encouraged to bring finger foods for the refreshment table. We have a tradition of ‘taxing’ the raffle winners to bring something delicious to the next meeting. We also have a bigger spread for the November auction and holiday meeting in December.
