Welcome to the North Eastern New York Orchid Society (NENYOS)!
It looks as if we'll be back at the library for our October meeting!
Our meeting will be on Saturday, October 6th and we welcome Carson Whitlow. Carson has been interested in orchids since he was in college. In the 1960s, he produced more than 60 blue cattleya hybrids. Many are used as basic parents in today’s blue Cattleya breeding.
After moving to central Iowa in 1973, he changed direction and began working with the hardy terrestrial orchids, primarily the Cypripediums and Calopogons. His work resulted in the first registered artificial hybrids of Cypripedium in 1987 and Calopogon in 1991.
Carson continues to hybridize blue cattleyas and white paphs and provides the seed to other growers to offer. His hybrid work is recognized throughout the world; he has published over 30 articles in U.S. and European journals.
Meetings are held the first Saturday of each month except January, July and August. In September, we avoid Labor Day weekend. We meet at the William Sanford Library in Colonie starting at 1:00 p.m. Please see the Meetings section of the website for more details.
